Who this course is for
Foundation Machine Polishing is aimed at three types of student: those who have never used a machine polisher before, those who have only used one type and want to broaden their experience, and those who have used entry-level machines but want to build more precise, confident technique with a long-throw dual-action polisher.
If you’re already comfortable with correction work at an advanced level, our two-day Advanced Machine Polishing course may be the more appropriate starting point — it covers all machine types in greater depth.
What the course covers
The day focuses on dual-action machines as the most accessible and effective starting point, covering both the hardware and the knowledge that makes machine polishing work properly.
You’ll cover surface defect and contamination identification, paint reading and thickness measurement using magnetic resonance, eddy current, and ultrasonic gauges, surface preparation and decontamination, pad and compound selection, polishing technique and finishing, and health and safety requirements.
The aim throughout is not just to run through a checklist, but to develop the judgment and assessment skills to make the right call in each situation — adapting technique to different paints, defects, and machines as you encounter them.
Machines & equipment
We have over 30 machines in-house from a wide range of manufacturers. If you haven’t yet settled on a machine to buy, the day gives you a genuine opportunity to compare options under guidance before making a decision. If you’d prefer to work with your own machine, let us know and we’ll happily accommodate that
