Coatings & Protection Course (1-to-1)

£595.00

Coating skills for professionals

Ceramic coatings are one of the highest-value services a detailer can offer — and one of the most technically unforgiving. Applied incorrectly, they’re costly and difficult to fix. Applied well, they’re a premium, recurring revenue stream that clients actively seek out and pay for.

This one-day course in Coatings & Protection gives you the knowledge and hands-on practice to offer coating services with genuine confidence and skill.

Crucially, you’ll work with a range of ceramic products from different manufacturers — not a single brand showcase — so you come away understanding how coatings behave, how formulations differ, and how to adapt your technique accordingly, rather than just following one set of instructions.

The course covers coating chemistry, surface preparation, application, curing, aftercare, troubleshooting, and safe removal — as well as the working conditions and workflow practices that determine whether a coating performs as promised.

What the course covers

The day divides into theory and practical work, with both running throughout rather than theory-first-then-hands-on.

You’ll cover the chemistry behind ceramic coatings — how they bond, what affects durability, and what the differences between product grades and formulations actually mean in practice — before moving into surface preparation, which the course treats as the most critical phase of any coating job. This means you understand the principles, can advise better, choose appropriately and solve any issues quickly and confidently.

Preparation coverage includes decontamination, polishing, and panel wipe technique, with particular attention to the steps that most commonly compromise coating adhesion and longevity. Application technique, flash times, levelling, and curing conditions are all addressed in detail, alongside common application errors, how to identify them early, and how to recover from them.

You’ll also cover coating with multi-stage ceramics, safe removal when required, and the aftercare advice your clients will need — giving you everything required to deliver a complete, professional coating service from first contact through to handover.

Multi-brand approach

Rather than training you on a single manufacturer’s system, this course deliberately works across multiple brands and product types. The coatings market is broad and moves quickly — understanding the underlying principles rather than one specific workflow means you can evaluate new products confidently, switch between brands as your business requires, and give clients genuinely informed recommendations.

On completion

Attendees receive a UK Detailing Academy certificate upon completing the course. Whether you’re adding coatings to an existing detailing offering or building a specialist protection service from the ground up, you’ll leave with both the technical grounding and the practical competence to do it properly, with ongoing support a message or phone call away whenever you need it.
