The Friday Sessions

£0.00

The Friday Sessions are a monthly event offering you a free learning opportunity, right here in the UKDA classroom.

We’ve created these as a session for topics that can’t fill a normal course, but are based on questions and topics we’re always asked about – sometimes hosted by ourselves, sometimes joined by special guests we have lined up, to deliver some workshop topics that detailers can use to grow themselves and their businesses.

Next Session: 31/07/2026

The next Friday Session looks at a service most detailers walk past: lease return preparation.

With a vast amount of UK cars now on PCP or contract hire, there’s a steady stream of vehicles heading back every month — each inspected against the BVRLA’s fair wear and tear standard, with anything beyond it charged back to the customer. A driver facing a few hundred pounds for swirls, kerbed alloys or stained trim will happily pay you to fix it first, or take your advice on when the cost benefit is outweighed by the fees.

We’ll cover the guidelines, the defects inspectors flag most often, and how to price a lease return service that adds repeatable work to your books.

Please note – this is an in-person event and you will need to travel to us in order to attend.

The Friday Sessions are a monthly event giving you a free learning opportunity right here in the classroom at UK Detailing Academy. We wanted to create a small session of students in the room, sometimes hosted by ourselves, sometimes joined by special guests, to deliver some topics that detailers can use to further themselves and their businesses.

Friday Sessions are completely free to attend, and are held at the Academy HQ in Gloucestershire – booking is essential though.

Please note – this is an in-person event, and you will need to travel to us in order to attend. Please ensure you are aware of our location and are willing to travel before booking.

The next Friday Session looks at a service most detailers walk straight past without realising the money in it: lease return preparation.

With the majority of UK cars now on PCP or contract hire, there’s a steady stream of vehicles heading back to the leasing company every month — and every one of them gets inspected against the BVRLA’s fair wear and tear standard. Anything judged beyond that standard gets charged back to the customer, often at rates that make a professional detail look cheap by comparison.

That’s the opportunity. A customer facing a few hundred pounds in end-of-lease charges for swirled paint, kerbed alloys, stained upholstery or a bumper scuff is a customer who’ll happily pay you to make the problem disappear first. The skill is knowing what the inspectors actually flag, what falls within acceptable limits, and where your time is best spent — correcting the defects that get charged, and leaving the ones that don’t.

In this session, we’ll walk through the fair wear and tear guidelines, the defects that come up most often on returns, and how to position and price a lease return service that saves your customer money and adds a reliable, repeatable service to your books.
